Focus on Technique - Using Photo Overlays – Layouts, Etc.

I just love being able to offer this challenge to you.  It's Focus on Technique, and the technique for this challenge is Using Photo Overlays.  Photo Overlays give photos that extra WOW factor, whether it be a texture overlay, or an overlay of brushes.

Most are as simple as pulling over your photo, working with the opacity level and brushing out areas where you do not want the texture to show (ie: faces, arms, etc.)

Below some of our Dream Girls have shared their take on this challenge to help inspire you.

Scrap a Moment - Birthday Parties - Behind the Scenes

Birthday's are great aren't they? And Doesn't everyone love a Birthday? Actually I love everything about a birthday, but sometimes all the planning and everything that goes on behind the scenes goes unnoticed. We all know how much time it takes to plan these events and all the hard work that goes into them. And what about all those moments that not everyone sees but the memories that you will cherish forever.  Lets share some of these times, wither it be getting ready, dancing, playing cake making, or just anything that helped make that day special.

Our challenge this week is to scrap those birthday behind the scene moments so that what might of went unnoticed to some will forever be noticed.

Here is some inspiration from our talented Dream Girls.

August Hybrid Challenge - CARDS

Ready for another hands on challenge? This month's challenge is easier than last month's, but first let's see who got a gift card to our shop? I had to do a random draw with this challenge because a couple of dear friends participated and I was biased to choose "the best" album, so the random winner is: LUCIANA. Please send me a PM for your gift certificate.

Now on to this month's challenge. Do you buy cards to give to your friends? Well, with all your talent and knowledge of digi, you really should be making those yourself :) Personalised cards are cute, can be very easy to make, and are sure to be a greater success with your recipient.

To create one, all you need is: your digi supplies, paper, printer and scissors, and if you really want to jazz it up, you might need embellishments and adhesives.

For this project specifically, I decided to do something different, I printed on to textured cardstock... and wow am I in love :) Have a look at Nancy Kubo's designs on printed cardstock:
Hybridcards1_2

Hybridcards3

Then I just cut up all the pieces of paper, added a fabric alpha + ribbons, and voila:

Mifilo_urlovedcard_2

Mifilo_happycard

You could add buttons and other embellishments too, like dream girl Jennifer did on her gorgeous cards:
Hybridchallengecardsweb

or maybe it is perfect the way it came out of the printer, like dream girl Suzy did on these stunning cards:

Much better than store bought cards isn't it? and here is a super fun freebie by Lauren to get you started:

We would love to see you get creative and show us some beautiful handmade cards using digital products. Please post your creations in our hybrid gallery by the 17th of September for a chance to win a gift card to the shoppe.

Recipe Challenge

Hey there, Angelia here bringing you a new Recipe Challenge that will have you thinking "back to school".  While cooking up a new recipe for the month, my mind started thinking of the start of a new school year that is fast approaching ... so I came up with "ABC & 123" as this months theme.

Here's a breakdown of the recipe:

For A, B, C you need to use something that starts with that letter at least once on the layout ~
A = acrylic, alpha, apple, etc
B = button, brad, butterfly, etc
C = circle, chipboard, cardboard, etc
For 1, 2, 3 you need to use the following
1 = 1 photo
2 = 2 school related elements...maybe tape or a staple
3 = 3 pieces of paper

Here's some inspiration from our Dream Girls ~

Focus on Photos: Candid Moments Challenge

Hey there! It's my turn to give you the next Focus on Photos challenge and I hope you will all have fun with this one! This challenge is about those candid moments that you've captured... Not the typical photos where the person or subject is prepared for the camera, but the ones that are taken without notice. It could be at any occasion or event, from birthdays to vacation travels, family gatherings to moments alone with your loved one. Whatever the scenario may be, it has to be unrehearsed, unexpected, and most of all a moment that you'd like to remember forever. Sometimes these photos are the ones that have special meaning because it's these type of photos that truly capture the real life experiences and emotions of that particular moment in time. Hope that makes sense! =)

Here is what I came up with...

If you are like me, I love to celebrate birthdays! I grew up with 3 siblings, 2 of which were sisters, and my sweet Mother always made sure our birthdays were very special! I always had a "summer" birthday during the school year, so when my ds's first birthday came up at Kindergarten I wanted to make sure it was a memorable day for him! Our challenge this week is to scrap those birthday moments that you want your children remember forever! Show us what party people you are!

Recipe Challenge

Thinking about this challenge and the recipe for it,
I realized we watch Food Network a lot! it's DD favorite channel!
Once in a while we try one of their recipes but I always change something.
It's either one ingredient we don't have or something I think will work better!

So, that's our challenge! one extra "ingredient"! Something you never use.
That's right! You follow the recipe and then, add your own ingredient.
It can be anything - buttons, flowers, a color, something different for you.

here is our recipe:

> 3 or more pictures
> white (or light colored) background
> journaling block
> frames
> word art
> one item that you never use

Here are some pages from our amazing team! :)

July Hybrid Challenge: Freestyle + Improvise

Hi everyone, hope you have been enjoying our challenges. Thanks for the participation on the June challenge. We saw some beautiful and some very cool and creative t-shirts. It was nearly impossible to pick a winner. I love this one from Sharon, but the winner for our June hybrid challenge is "kperrien" for this simple and adorable design. Check your PM for a little gift :)

This month's challenge is to create a freestyle album.
Freestyle, as in album shape, means to mix different sizes and shapes in your album. As an example for this challenge I have created a basic mini album designed from an A4 sheet, just to keep things simple, but feel free to add other shapes and sizes to your own project.

Here is how to do it:

Create an A4/Letter document and cut it up in 4 different sized parts (or use this challenge's freebie). Design your pages based on each part you have cut, in my case, I have just used Michelle's Tried and True Quick Pages - Serendipity and just adapted the pages to the sizes I wanted, easy peasy:

Mateusfreestylealbum_0 Mateusfreestylealbum_1

Now to the fun part of putting together a freestyle album. I have had a lot of people approach me to complain they can’t get their favorite shaped chipboard album anywhere. Well, you don’t have to worry about that with a freestyle album, just use whatever you have available to create your own shapes. Heavy cardstock, photographic paper (of a heavier weigh) and cardboard are my favorite alternatives to chipboard bases.

So, get a box, any box! (I used a diaper box, because I have lot’s of those around LOL) and open it up:
Mateusfreestylealbum_2 Mateusfreestylealbum_3

Cut to the size/shape of your page and then tear the print from the box:
Mateusfreestylealbum_4 Mateusfreestylealbum_5 Mateusfreestylealbum_6
(I love the grunge look of tore corrugated cardboard)

Adhere your page to the cardboard.
Mateusfreestylealbum_7_3 Mateusfreestylealbum_8
I tore parts off some of my pages to let the corrugated cardboard show through.

Also, remember to do any stitching/ stapling/ punching BEFORE you adhere your pages to the cardboard.

Repeat the process for each page and then mark where you need to punch holes to tie all of them together. You can use metal rings or just ribbons. Then you are done.
