Focus on Photos Challenge – Selected Color

It’s my pleasure to bring you this month’s Focus on Photos challenge! The technique we’re looking for is selected color on a black and white photo. I learned this technique by reading a tutorial for Photoshop Elements. You can use any program and the process should be fairly similar. Choose your photo and open it in your software program. Duplicate the layer and convert the second layer into a black and white photo. You can do so by changing the mode to grayscale or sliding the saturation bar until you achieve the black and white tone you desire. Now choose the area you wish to show in color and use your erasing tool to erase that portion from the black and white layer. You’ll quickly see the color popping up from the bottom layer. Once you’ve achieved the look you want, merge the layers and presto! you’ve got a black and white photo with selected color.

So dreamers, give it a try! Find a photo and highlight a special aspect or portion of the image. Use the gorgeous products in the shop and upload your layout to the challenge gallery. Here’s a little inspiration from the Dream Girls to get you started:
